VR, or virtual reality, has taken the gaming world by storm in recent years.

This is certainly true for the sim-racing world, where huge triple monitor setups used to be King.

So, what do you need for a VR sim-racing setup? And is it worth it over a triple monitor setup? Let's take a look now!

VR for sim-racing

One of the main things you need to decide is whether or not you want a VR headset in the first place.

There are a multitude of pros to a VR headset. Quite simply, the biggest is the immersion that being in the cockpit allows. (And the AC modding community adds phenomenal content frequently!)

However, some of the cons can be deal-breakers. The most common on is motion sickness or nausea.

If you're willing to power through this initially, the payoff is more than worth it in our eyes!

But I like my three monitors!

If you are currently on a single widescreen monitor or a triple screen setup, that's absolutely fine.

Sim-racing is all about personal preference, and if you like that awesome 3 monitor rig, then stick at it!

However, for small things like noticing the braking distance, looking at your cockpit, checking out your RPM gauge in real-time, nothing compares to VR.

Which headset should I get?

There are, obviously, a number of options on the market. So, let's take a look at these now!

One of the best cost-effective options is the Oculus Quest 2. It features an incredible 3664x1920 display at up to a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 100 degree FOV.

It does come with one caveat, you'll need a Facebook login to get it to work.

On the other end of the spectrum, you've got the incredible Valve Index VR Full Kit.

Boasting an awesome 2880x1600 display, ~130 degree FOV and up to 144Hz refresh rate, it really is the bee's knees.

What else do you need? Well, bar a wheel and pedals, just a PC. So, let's look at that now!

A PC fit for VR

Obviously, a VR setup requires a pretty powerful PC, especially if you want to enjoy it to its greatest ability.

For example, the minimum requirements for the Oculus Quest 2 are an i5-4590/Ryzen 5 1500X or higher, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 and a GTX 970/ RAdeon 400 Series or better.

Obviously, if you want to experience VR flawlessly, we highly recommend going for a more modern rig.
