When we think of racing simulators, Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo are always the first two that come to mind. That doesn't mean that there aren't other great sims are out there, far from it. Assetto Corsa has received a lot of love from gamers and reviewers, but how good is it and its sequel Assetto Corsa Competizione?
AC was released in 2014 and is out for both console and PC gamers to enjoy. Review aggregator Metacritic is usually a good place to go to gauge how good a game is. They collate reviews from both the critics and the fans, so what do people think of the original AC?
Going off the reviews on Metacritic, the fans and critics agree almost perfectly, which is very rare. The critics are shown to give AC 85% out of 100, while the fans come in at 8.4/10, which is 84% when you scale it up. That's for PC, and the scores are different for the console versions.
On PlayStation 4, critics come in at 73%, while the fans are down at 6.1. For Xbox One, the score is much lower from the critics (63%) with the fans surprisingly preferring this to the PS4 version at 6.5.
These lower scores for console are probably down to the lack of modding available and the fact it came out a year later than the original PC version.
So, if you're going to buy the original AC, opt for the PC version if you've got a good gaming computer!
Assetto Corsa Competizione
Assetto Corsa Competizione was released on PC in 2019 and later released on console last year, in line with the release schedule of the original AC. Did ACC impress the critics and fans more though? Let's see what the Metacritic found!
Critics and fans disagree slightly on the PC version of ACC, but they do agree that the original AC was better. The critics weighed in at 77% with the fans at 7.1. So, still pretty good, but not the lofty heights of AC.
The critics were more impressed with the PS4 and Xbox One versions than the original AC though. For PlayStation 4, ACC scored 75%, with Xbox One scoring 71%. The fans though aren't impressed anywhere near as much. PS4 came in at 5.4 and Xbox One at 4.8.
So, like the original AC, go with the PC version if you're going to buy ACC.
