DiRT Rally 3.0: Could Codemasters drop a new rally game in 2021?
DiRT Rally 3.0 is hopefully on the horizon, but when exactly can we expect the game?
DiRT Rally 2.0 is one of the defining rally sims on the market currently, and it’s easy to see why.
The game boasts a large variety of in-game content for racing, and impressive physics and visuals.
However, it’s been 2 years since the game was released, so fans’ eyes are turning to 3.0. Let’s take a look at what we know so far!
DiRT Rally 3.0
We don’t yet know an awful lot about the title, other than a confirmation that the title is on the way.
A blog post at the beginning of 2020 confirmed that the team “has something in mind”. Undoubtedly, this is the next installment in the franchise.
We can also deduce this from the patch notes for DiRT Rally 2.0’s updates. At the bottom of the two most recent update blog posts, there is a portion of text that reads that these are the last planned updates for the game.
With DIRT 5 landing late last year, we would pencil in a DiRT Rally 3.0 for a similar release time late 2021.
Support for Rally 2.0
Naturally, support for the current title will continue in terms of online multiplayer, and potential further bug fixes.
However, there is no further planned content to be released for the game, leaving the team plenty of time to focus on the third installment.
Whilst the studio will also be focussing somewhat on DIRT 5, no doubt the team is also well underway with our next rally-based sim.
In 2023, Codemasters are still pencilled in to acquire the WRC license.
We don’t see this interfering too much with DiRT Rally 3.0 however, as we hope the release date for the sim will be far sooner.
Nevertheless, should the team miss a 2021 release date, it is possible that Codemasters’ next rally sim game won’t launch until they take over the WRC license in 2023.
There is still very little confirmed news concerning the title, so we’ll update this piece when we know more!
