Sim racing fans rejoice: Assetto Corsa 2 is in development.

Despite being over ten years old, Assetto Corsa has a loyal fanbase. Thanks to its realistic driving physics and accurately laser-scanned tracks, it's regarded as one of the best sim racing games on console and PC. Technology has evolved rapidly since Assetto Corsa came out, and so the sequel to the acclaimed racing simulation is highly anticipated.

From the release window to confirmed platforms, here's everything we know so far about Assetto Corsa 2.

Latest news: Assetto Corsa 2 "is not just a sequel," says Kunos Simulazioni

While Assetto Corsa 2 has yet to be unveiled, Kunos Simulazioni is setting player expectations high for the sequel, hinting that it's "not just a sequel."

“The new Assetto Corsa is going to follow what we did with Assetto Corsa ‘1,’” Kunos Simulazioni’s executive manager, Marco Massarutto, said in a recent interview.

While he didn’t reveal any further details, he teased that “it is not just a sequel, it is much, much, more. It’s definitely not a spin-off like Competizione.”

Assetto Corsa 2 delayed to Summer 2024

Originally set for a Spring 2024 release, Assetto Corsa 2 has been pushed back until Summer 2024. This was confirmed in a press release by Digital Bros, the parent company of Kunos Simulazioni and 505 Games.

Kunos Simulazioni was aiming to release Assetto Corsa 2 within the next fiscal year ending July 2024, so it should arrive in June or July 2024.

This suggests console players may have to wait longer to play Assetto Corsa 2. This isn't unusual as console ports of past games have arrived at least one year after the initial PC release.

New engine

Although Assetto Corsa 2 now has a release window, very little is known about the game. However, unlike Assetto Corsa Competizione, which focuses on GT racing cars, we expect the car roster to feature a mix of road cars and thoroughbred racecars like the original game.

While some fans were hoping Assetto Corsa 2 will utilise Unreal Engine 5, Kunos SImulazioni has confirmed the sequel will instead run on a new in-house engine like the original.

This will lead to incredible graphics and even more lifelike physics within the title. This is in contrast to Assetto Corsa Competizione, which runs on Unreal Engine 4.

Platforms: Will Assetto Corsa 2 come to consoles?

Assetto Corsa 2's platforms are yet to be confirmed, but PC will likely be the primary platform. This was the case for the original as it allowed for community modding support. Like Le Mans Ultimate, Assetto Corsa 2 will initially be release in early access on PC.

Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione received console ports after their initial PC releases. Assetto Corsa 2 will follow this pattern, with a Digital Bros financial report confirming a console port is planned in the "long term." This isn't surprising considering that nearly 40% of Assetto Corsa's consoles were on consoles.

Unfortunately, it's not clear when Assetto Corsa 2 will arrive on consoles, but it will seemingly be sometime after the PC's Summer 2024 release window. Going by the last two games, console players will likely have to wait at least a year.

When Assetto Corsa 2 eventually arrives on consoles, Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport will have a new challenger. Since Kunos is a smaller team, we're expecting Assetto Corsa 2 to have fewer cars and tracks than Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport, but its best-in-class driving physics should make up for this.

Car list

Since Assetto Corsa 2 hasn't been announced yet, the car list has yet to be confirmed. As it's the official GT World Challenge game, Assetto Corsa Competizione's car roster focuses exclusively on GT cars. We're expecting Assetto Corsa 2 to feature more vehicle variety with a mix of road models and racecars.

Track list

Assetto Corsa 2's track list is unconfirmed, but tracks from the original game will likely carry over such as Monza, Imola, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Zandvoort, Spa, Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Laguna Seca and the Nurburgring. Like the original and Assetto Corsa Competizione, every track will be meticulously laser-scanned.

Release date prediction

Assetto Corsa 2's release date is yet to be confirmed. However, Digital Bros has confirmed a Summer 2024 release window. With Kunos Simulazioni targeting a release by the end of the next fiscal year ending in July 2024, this narrows the release window to June or July 2024.

ACC GT Pack

While that may seem a fair way out, the frequent content additions to AC and ACC help keep the games fresh along with an active modding community. This has helped the longevity of the original titles in the first place.

Assetto Corsa Competizione has already received a new car pack with the GT2 Pack DLC, while the Nurburgring Nordschleife is joining the track roster in April.
