It’s that time again when Sony announces next month’s free PlayStation Plus titles. Happily, the racing genre is represented in March's PS Plus game lineup.
Sony has announced that Team Sonic Racing will be free for PlayStation Plus subscribers in March. It’s the first racing title included in the PS Plus Monthly Games list since DiRT 5 in January.
PlayStation Plus subscribers can play Team Sonic Racing for free
A sequel to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Team Sonic Racing focuses on team racing, as the title suggests.
Released in 2019, Team Sonic Racing features 15 colourful characters from the Sonic universe including Tails, Knuckles and, of course, the titular hedgehog. Four teams of three compete in each race, with the ability to swap boosts and weapons with your teammates.
While karts are upgradeable, Team Sonic Racing removes the transforming mechanic from the last Sonic Racing game that turns your kart into a boat and plane mid-race.
As it released close to Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, Team Sonic Racing may have fallen under your radar. This is a great opportunity if you missed out.
Although Team Sonic Racing is a PS4 game and was never ported to PS5, it’s playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility.
PlayStation Plus subscribers can download Team Sonic Racing from the PlayStation Store for free on 1st March. Other free games in the PS Plus March collection include Ghost of Tsushima: Legends (PS5/PS4), Ark: Survival Evolved (PS4), and Ghostrunner (PS5).
More kart racing goodness in March
March is shaping up to be a great month for kart racing fans. After Team Sonic Racing releases for free for PlayStation Plus subscribers, Chocobo GP launches on Nintendo Switch a few days later on 10 March.
After that, Wave 1 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass will release on 18 March. Retailing at £22.49, Wave 1 adds eight classic courses from past Mario Kart games including Paris Promenade, Toad Circuit, and Choco Mountain. In total, the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass includes 48 tracks spread across four waves.
