Get your passports ready, truckers. After years of hauling freight exclusively across the United States, SCS Software has just announced its most exciting expansion yet.
American Truck Simulator is officially crossing the border for the very first time. The destination? The beautiful, rugged landscapes of British Columbia, Canada.
A New Frontier for American Truckers
This upcoming DLC will be a major milestone for the simulation series, as it will finally take players north of the 49th parallel. British Columbia, Canada’s westernmost province, offers incredibly diverse scenery.
On the Steam page, the developers promise a journey that captures the spirit of the region. Players will drive from the Pacific Coast, where lush rainforests meet the ocean, and travel through bustling cities, fertile valleys, and even deserts before ascending into the towering Rocky Mountains in Montana or crossing the Cascades into Washington.
From Vancouver Island to the Rockies
The map expansion aims to include some of the province's most iconic locations. Drivers will navigate the vibrant urban center of Vancouver. You can also take a ferry to Vancouver Island to visit Victoria, the charming provincial capital. The expansion also features Whistler, the world-renowned resort famous for hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The driving experience itself is getting a massive new portfolio of roads. Truckers can conquer challenging and scenic routes like the Coquihalla Summit and Rogers Pass. For more relaxed drives, the Okanagan Valley offers beautiful orchards, vineyards, and sparkling lakes. The expansion will also feature national and provincial parks, showcasing natural wonders like the towering Mount Robson.
What This Means for the Future
Crossing into Canada opens the door to a truly continental driving experience. A British Columbia DLC lets SCS experiment with ferries, bilingual signage, and stricter weight stations. These elements could influence future expansions to Alberta or even the Maritime provinces.
Critically, it also paves the way for an eventual, highly requested route to Alaska. This move may also indicate that a Mexican add-on for the southern border is no longer a question of if, but when.
SCS Software notes that all shared images and information are still a work in progress. No release date has been set, but the British Columbia DLC is now available to add to your Steam wishlist.
