Apple wants to take over every form of sports entertainment and is now targeting Formula 1. The company announced that it had reached an agreement that will see Apple TV become the only way to watch Formula 1 in the United States for the next five years, set to start in 2026.
On October 17, Apple confirmed it will leverage all its existing services, such as Apple Sports, Apple News, and even Apple Maps, to bolster Formula 1's reach as a brand. Naturally, the recent success of the Apple-produced F1: The Movie has had a significant impact on both companies, leading to a deal that will see them collaborate for the foreseeable future.
As part of this new deal, all practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions, and Grands Prix will be available to Apple TV subscribers. Furthermore, a select few races, as well as every practice session, will also be available for free for non-subscribers.
It'll be interesting to see how American audiences take to this change, as many sports fans opted to subscribe to ESPN as it had a wider variety of sports-related content.
Formula 1 has risen in popularity over the years in the United States as the competition has put an emphasis on the North American audience. The current F1 season includes stops at Las Vegas, Miami, Austin, and even in the neighboring country of Mexico. This makes following the season incredibly accommodating for American audiences.
Whether the move to Apple TV ends up paying off in the long term remains to be seen for Formula 1, but it's clear the tech giant struck when the iron was hot and will hope to reap the rewards in the coming years.
