Assetto Corsa Competizione looks stunning in PS5 gameplay trailer

With Gran Turismo 7 and GRID Legends just around the corner, it’s easy to forget that Assetto Corsa Competizione is getting a next-generation upgrade on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in a few weeks.

Kunos Simulazioni has released a new gameplay trailer showing Assetto Corsa Competizione running on PS5. The difference between the PS4 and PS5 versions is night and day.

Assetto Corsa Competizione looks stunning on PS5

In over three minutes of PS5 gameplay footage, the trailer puts us in the cockpit of an Audi R8 GT3 racing around Zolder in the Netherlands before switching to an intense night-time race in the wet at Spa in a 2018 Bentley Continental GT3.

Whereas the PS4 version chugged along with a variable frame rate often dipping below 30fps, the PS5 version is bumped up to a locked 60fps, allowing for a more fluid driving experience.

Resolution has also increased from 1080p to 4K, and it looks glorious. Essentially, the PS5 version’s graphics and performance will be on par with the PC version, though it’s not clear if the console versions support HDR like the PC game. It sounds great, too, with some of the best engine sounds we've heard in a console racing game.

We haven’t seen any Assetto Corsa Competizione Xbox Series X gameplay yet, but it’s safe to assume it will also run at 4K and 60fps on Microsoft’s console. It’s not clear how it will run on Xbox Series S, however, but it should still offer improved visuals and performance over the original Xbox One release.

Free upgrade for PS4 and Xbox One players

Assetto Corsa Competizione will be released digitally on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 22 February. If you prefer physical releases, a boxed version will follow on 24 February.

There's also some good news for PS4 and Xbox One players. If you already own the PS4 or Xbox One version, you can get a free upgrade on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. You can also transfer save data and previously-owned DLC.
