It's no secret that CarX Drift Racing Online has been a huge success since its launch. The drifting game has become a real fan-favourite since making the jump from mobile to PC and eventually console.
CarX has been out on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One since 2019 and there have been calls to upgrade the game to a next-gen version. But did you know that CarX actually has a sequel? We've got a rundown of everything you need to know about CarX 2 right here and whether you can expect it on console anytime soon.
A worthy successor
CarX Drift Racing 2 was released in 2018 for iOS and Android mobile devices. Like the original CarX game, fans love it, as it holds around a 4.5 out of 5 rating on both the Play and App stores.
So far though, we haven't heard any news of a PC nor console port for CarX 2. That's probably down to the success of the original CarX on PS4 and Xbox One, as this game still receives regular updates and expansions. What would CarX 2 bring to the table, though?
Watching some gameplay of CarX 2 will immediately show you why it's a big step up over the original game. Graphically and audibly, the game is a lot higher quality than the original. The HUD, Career Mode, customisation and cars are all also improved drastically.
With a few minor tweaks like increasing the level cap above 40 and removing the odd microtransaction, CarX 2 could be near as damnit perfect.
Will CarX 2 come to console?
With how popular both games are, CarX technologies will be keen to get CarX 2 out on the console market. However, it's not that simple, as they won't want to steal some of the spotlight that's being shined on the original game.
What would satisfy both the fans and the developers though, is if CarX 2 was released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X rather than "old" gen. This would mean that CarX is available on console and would look absolutely spectacular in 60 fps 4K graphics.
We wouldn't expect to see this anytime soon though, as PS5 and Series X consoles still aren't commonplace. The potential playerbase of next-gen gamers is still small compared to the PS4 and One's playerbase. We'd need to see the next-gen consoles reach a point where they become the most popular home systems to see CarX 2 on them.
So, until that changes, we likely won't see CarX 2 on PS5 nor Series X.
