Many Formula 1 drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen start their careers in karts. Despite this, dedicated kart games are rare besides simulations like KartKraft. Enter Kart Superstars, a new colourful karting game from the creators of the acclaimed Circuit Superstars.
Karting Superstars announced
Karting Superstars is currently in development by Original Fire Games, the Canadian creators of the top-down indie racer Circuit Superstars.
While Circuit Superstars was a love letter to motorsport with racing types ranging from touring cars to trucks, Karting Superstars ācaptures the exciting and competitive world of karting.ā
Whereas Circuit Superstars is a throwback to old-school top-down racers, Karting Superstars puts you closer to the action with a traditional third-person chase camera.
A short gameplay clip released by Original Fire Games showcases a tight race between 11 AI opponents at Siena. Online multiplayer for up to 12 players is also supported, while single-player races feature dynamic AI difficulty that adapts to your skill level. You can also race against ghost players and compete in Time Trials on a global leaderboard.
Since Karting Superstars is an indie game made by a small team, Original Fire Games is tempering expectations. The developer confirms Karting Superstars wonāt offer a career mode, split-screen, or the ability to spectate live races. There will also only be one kart type and no performance upgrades.
As such, we expect Karting Superstars to be a budget release thatās cheaper than Circuit Superstars.
Coming Q3 2023
Karting Superstars is set to launch in Q3 2023. PC is the only confirmed platform so far, but it will hopefully come to consoles afterwards. After its initial PC release, Circuit Superstars was ported to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
