Disney Speedstorm is out now, but is there a physical release version on the market for collectors and fans of the House of Mouse?
Gameloft’s kart racer lets you race as your favourite Disney and Pixar characters from Mickey Mouse to Mulan in iconic locations from Disney and Pixar animation movies and TV shows.
Given the worldwide popularity of the Disney IP, Disney Speedstorm has massive scope to increase the content available. When it comes to the game itself, though, can you buy a physical retail copy of Disney Speedstorm?
Is there a Disney Speedstorm physical release?
Unfortunately, if you enjoy collecting physical games media and were hoping for a Disney Speedstorm physical release, we have bad news.
At the time of writing, there is no Disney Speedstorm physical release. Currently, the game is free-to-play on the PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch digital stores.
Since Speedstorm is free-to-play, it is extremely unlikely that Gameloft will spend money and effectively make a loss just to create a disc version.
Digital Revolution
With digital vastly outweighing physical game sales in recent years, many players prefer the convenience and accessibility of digital downloads.
However, other players like the sense of ownership you get with physical games, so there is still a demand for physical games from collectors.
Owning a physical copy also means you will own Disney Speedstorm forever - even if it’s removed from digital storefronts if licenses expire in the future, something that's been a very controversial issue.
With Speedstorm's popularity, it is possible that it could get a deluxe physical release containing bonus content. This wouldn't come free, of course, but it would be very popular with collectors and Disney fans alike.
This would bundle character and track DLC from the current and upcoming in-game Seasons. We would also expect a physical edition to include Tokens and Golden Pass Credits for players who don’t want to grind or pay for DLC with microtransactions.
But while it’s certainly possible in the future, Gameloft hasn’t announced any plans for a Disney Speedstorm physical release yet. We’ll keep you updated if these plans change.
Speedstorm versions
Disney Speedstorm is free to download and play right now, but there are other ways to play the game. After early access expired, there are two other versions you can purchase to give you an advantage over the competition.
The first is the Special Pack, which retails for £39.99 in the UK. This is the base free-to-play game but with 6,400 in-game tokens, 2 Golden Pass Credits, as well as three new characters with karts and racing suits for them.
The other option is the Legendary Pack, which will set you back £79.99 in the UK. This version of Speedstorm includes 13,500 Tokens, 3 Golden Pass Credits as well as four new characters with racing suits and kart liveries for them.
