Virtual Reality is becoming more and more popular in racing titles. Sim racing games such as Assetto Corsa and iRacing support VR, but these games have been around for years. Now entering early access, a lot of players are asking: does Forza Motorsport support VR?
Does Forza Motorsport support VR?
Unlike the PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series X|S consoles don't offer VR support. Sadly, this means console players can't enjoy Forza Motorsport in virtual reality. Gran Turismo 7 players, on the other hand, have been enjoying racing in virtual reality since February 2023. But what about PC players?
Sadly it’s bad news for PC VR fans. Forza Motorsport does not support VR, and it looks like there are no plans for the title to support VR in the future either. At a Q&A session in June 2023, Turn 10 revealed that Forza Motorsport will not support VR at release.
Considering the Xbox doesn't have its own VR headset like the PSVR2 for PS5, it was always likely that Forza Motorsport would skip supporting virtual reality. This does mean PC players won’t be able to enjoy the enhanced visuals in VR, but it would be considered a waste of resources if the PC version was built to support VR.
Games like Assetto Corsa are developed on a much smaller scale compared to Forza Motorsport and therefore can support VR a lot more easily. Forza Motorsport’s extensive car and track lists mean that supporting VR on most PCs is almost impossible.
In order to make the game more accessible, as well as limit the number of differences between the PC and Xbox versions of the game, the decision to not support VR will probably be the right one in the future.
Forza Motorsport review
We’ve been fortunate to get our hands on Forza Motorsport early, and it seems Gran Turismo 7 finally has a rival. Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport have always vied for the title of best console-exclusive racing game, and now Forza Motorsport has shifted the balance back in Microsoft’s favour.
With a better Career Mode, smart AI Drivatars, and a vastly superior car upgrade system, Forza Motorsport is here to seize the crown from its Sony counterpart.
