As the staggering success of Forza Horizon 5 has shown, open-world racing games are more popular than ever. These games give you the freedom to roam around a sprawling environment and create your own driving adventures. But does Gran Turismo 7 have free roam?
Does Gran Turismo 7 have free roam?
Unfortunately, Gran Turismo 7 does not have free roam. All races in Gran Turismo 7 are on closed circuits, with no option to freely drive around the environment. It’s a shame because we would love to go on a casual cruise, enjoy the drive, and take in GT7’s stunning scenery.
We’re not surprised though, as, unlike Forza, Gran Turismo games have never had open-world environments to explore. This isn’t likely to change either, as Polyphony hasn’t announced plans to add free-roaming to GT7. One day, we would love to see an open-world Gran Turismo spin-off game because Sony doesn’t have any first-party racing games that rival Forza Horizon in its line-up.
Track list
While there are no open-world environments, GT7 features a huge selection of circuits. There are 34 locations and over 90 layouts, with more coming in future updates. GT7 sees the return of fan-favourite tracks that were absent in GT Sport, including High Speed Ring, Deep Forest Raceway, and Trial Mountain. You can also tackle real-world circuits from the Nurburgring to Brands Hatch.
Only a few tracks are unlocked from the start, however. To unlock tracks in GT7, you need to complete menus in the GT Café. There are 39 menus in total, so this will take some time. Unfortunately, this also means that some tracks are initially unavailable when creating a custom race.
GT7 also lets you race in the rain, but dynamic weather effects aren’t available for every track.
