Not every racing game player has access to a wheel, but that's not an issue for most. Many racing titles work just as well on a controller as they do a wheel, however, you can lose some of the feeling. So how can you change your controller settings in EA Sports WRC to keep you competitive?

Keeping control

Rally racing is all about feel. Throwing a rally car around at breakneck speeds without exceeding the limit is what rally racing is all about. When racing on a wheel, this is fairly easy, but on a controller, it can be a lot more difficult.

The issue with racing on a pad is that lack of feel. Even when using a PS5 controller with haptic feedback, you can’t feel the surface under the tyres as you can with a wheel. EA Sports WRC does come with a range of controller settings you can use to help though, so how can you change your controller settings to keep you in control?

How to change controller settings in EA Sports WRC

EA Sports WRC has an entire section of its settings dedicated to getting your controls exactly how you want them. To find the controller settings, head to the options menu, then select ‘Controls’.

Just like EA’s other sim title, F1 23, you can create individual profiles for each controller. This means if you switch from a controller to a wheel, your control profile will also switch, so you won’t have to keep tweaking settings.

To edit the controller settings for an individual controller, select the profile and then choose ‘Edit Device’. This will then take you through to the controller settings.

The controller settings are split across three tabs. The first tab is your button map, where you can assign each button on your controller to a function. If you need to change your button layout, this is the place to do it.

The next tab is the advanced controller settings. Here you can adjust your steering sensitivity and linearity to get the best result when reaching a corner.

The final tab is where you can customise your controller vibration. If you’re finding the controller is too violent when hitting certain parts of a stage, you can tone down the feedback here. Just remember you won’t be able to feel the car’s limit as much if you turn things down too far.
