BeamNG.drive arrives on PlayStation 5 on October 19, 2026, more than a decade after the soft-body physics sandbox first went on sale on PC.

BeamNG GmbH confirmed the date on September 24 with a release date trailer. The console version launches in Early Access at 14:00 UTC, the same development stage the PC game has occupied since May 2015.

The PS5 version was first announced on May 28, 2026, through a PlayStation Blog post from BeamNG CEO Thomas Fischer and a matching post on the studio's own site.

Neither committed to anything more specific than a release later in the year. Fischer wrote that players had been asking about a console version for "the better part of a decade."

BeamNG is developing and publishing the port itself, with no outside studio attached. The Bremen-based studio is a team of around 90 people, according to its September press release.

The PlayStation Store page is already live with a wishlist option, and the 14:00 UTC launch works out to 10 a.m. EDT and 7 a.m. PDT.

The PS5 Release Lands Alongside PC Update v0.40

The two platforms are moving in step. BeamNG says version 0.40 will reach PC around the same date as the console launch.

The studio has described the console work as requiring optimization across nearly every system, and much of it already shipped to PC in v0.39 on July 29.

That update added a Direct3D 12 renderer, HDR support, and an overhauled interface rebuilt partly so the menus would work properly with a gamepad. It was the first numbered PC update since v0.38 landed in December 2025.

Version 0.40 also adds a new vehicle on day one for both PC and PS5 players. BeamNG has not named it yet.

Split-Screen Supports Up to Four Players

Local split-screen arrives with v0.40, and the PS5 store listing confirms support for one to four players on a single console. Split-screen is the only way to share a session with other players on PS5 at launch.

On PC, online sessions have long relied on the community-built BeamMP mod, which will not be available on PS5 since mods are off the table at launch.

PS5 Pro Gets PSSR Upscaling

Standard PS5 consoles use AMD's FSR 3 for upscaling, while PS5 Pro owners get Sony's own PSSR, according to BeamNG's press release.

Frame rate and resolution targets have not been announced, and BeamNG has not said whether the game will offer separate performance and quality modes.

The DualSense controller gets vibration and adaptive trigger support. The store listing also includes advanced controller remapping, stick sensitivity and inversion settings, and 17 accessibility features.

Twelve Maps and Career Mode Make the Jump

PS5 players get 12 maps and, per Fischer's blog post, roughly a thousand vehicle configurations.

Free roam lets players tweak conditions such as wind speed and gravity, while scenarios and time trials are both listed on the store page.

Career Mode, still flagged as a work in progress on PC, follows a climb from a beaten-up starter car to a luxury fleet. The mission system covers races and police chases.

Fischer's post puts the physics engine's update rate at 2kHz, meaning the simulation updates 2,000 times per second. BeamNG has not indicated that the PS5 build scales that back.

Mods and VR Won't Be Available at Launch

BeamNG's release date announcement put it plainly: "VR and mods won't be supported at launch." On PC, BeamNG hosts an official mod repository that players can browse from inside the game.

The press release calls console mod support a unique challenge and says its timing and scope cannot yet be confirmed.

The World Editor, BeamNG's mod authoring tool, is not currently planned for PlayStation. The studio says it is aiming for feature parity across platforms over the long term, where possible.

Official Online Multiplayer Is Still in Development

Official online multiplayer was confirmed as in development in May, but it will not ship with v0.40 on either platform. The studio said at the time that it likely would not arrive for quite a while.

BeamNG's FAQ previously stated that online multiplayer was never part of the game's originally promised features, so the May confirmation marked a change in the studio's plans.

Cross-play has not been announced, despite early headlines suggesting otherwise.

Price and Wheel Support Are Still Unannounced

With three weeks to go, BeamNG has not revealed a price, and no editions or pre-orders are available. For reference, the PC version sells for around $24.99 on Steam.

Racing wheel support is also unconfirmed, and no Logitech, Thrustmaster, or Fanatec models have been named for PS5. The US PlayStation Store page lists the ESRB rating as pending.

Nothing has been said about Xbox Series X|S or Switch 2, and BeamNG's FAQ says only that it cannot confirm support for other platforms.

What Comes After the October 19 Launch

Neither the PS5 nor the PC version has a 1.0 date, and BeamNG's FAQ still answers questions about update timing with "When it's ready."

Official online multiplayer is the next confirmed addition, with console mod support still being explored. No dates are attached to either.

BeamNG.drive launches in Early Access on the PlayStation Store on October 19, 2026, and is available now on Steam for PC.
