After months of rumours and speculation, F1 22 was officially announced yesterday. This year’s F1 title will see some significant changes, including sprint races, adapative AI, and a new F1 Life mode.
Simulating the lavish lifestyle of F1 drivers, this new customisable hub allows you to show off supercar and clothing collections. You can even drive supercars for the first time in the series in a new Pirelli Hot Laps mode.
F1 22 is racing onto consoles and PC on 1 July. But the PC version has some extra requirements that fans aren’t happy about.
F1 22 requires Origin on PC
According to the Steam listing, F1 22 requires Origin client software to be installed and run in the background. Conversely, F1 2021 did not require Origin software to be installed. EA owns Origin, however, so it’s not surprising that F1 22 requires it.
Unsurprisingly, the news hasn’t gone down well with fans on Reddit. Fans are complaining that forcing players to run Origin is unnecessary. After all, you already need to run Steam to play F1 22.
As well as requiring Origin, the PC version of F1 22 also incorporates third-party DRM and requires an EA Account to activate. Presumably, the console versions will also require an EA Account.
Alas, these changes were inevitable as EA now owns Codemasters as part of a $1.2 billion acquisition.
VR support
It’s not all bad news for PC players, though. For the first time in the series, F1 22 will have VR support. EA has confirmed F1 22 is compatible with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive headsets, immersing you into the world of F1 like never before. We can’t wait to experience F1 22 in VR.
We’re keeping our fingers crossed that F1 22 will also support Sony's PSVR 2 haedset on PS5, but this isn’t confirmed yet.
