Fanatec has partnered with Polyphony Digital once again to bring a new version of the Gran Turismo Direct Drive wheel. The Gran Turismo DD Extreme delivers better performance, better control, and a better all-round experience for sim racers.
Let’s take a look at the new Gran Turismo DD Extreme from Fanatec.
Extreme racing
A successor to the GT DD Pro The Gran Turismo DD Extreme is billed as the most powerful direct-drive wheel designed specifically for Gran Turismo. The 15 Nm ClubSport DD+ Wheel Base delivers consistent torque performance without sacrificing the force feedback available.
To improve the grip on the wheel itself, the outer rim is coated with vegan-friendly leather. At 300mm across, the wheel is the perfect size for any sim racer to get the best driving feel.
Four five-way directional sticks, RGB LED rings, RGB RevLEDs, FlagLEDs, and a 2.7-inch OLED display complete the front side of the wheel. These, combined with the large magnetic paddle shifters on the rear, give an instinctive experience when driving at the limit.
The Gran Turismo DD Extreme comes with a QR2 quick-release system, allowing you to swap the wheel out for any other Fanatec wheel.
The ultimate driving wheel
As the name suggests, the Gran Turismo DD Extreme is designed explicitly for Gran Turismo 7. The wheel works just as well on PS4 and PS5, but should definitely be used with current-gen hardware for the best result. Despite being designed around GT7, the wheel is still compatible with other PlayStation racing titles.
In order to meet the expectations of GT7, the Gran Turismo DD Extreme utilises its ClubSport DD+ to deliver consistent force feedback lap after lap. The wheel’s thermal stability means no race is too enduring, so you can push your driving skills to the limit without your wheel letting you down.
The force feedback system itself has also received an upgrade for the Gran Turismo DD Extreme. Force feedback 2.0 has been developed specifically for direct drive technology, replacing the previous iteration that was limited by gear and belt-driven devices.
Luxury racing
For a wheel as advanced as the Gran Turismo DD Extreme, you can expect the price to reflect the performance. The Gran Turismo DD Extreme will retail at €1299.95 (approx £1110/$1400), putting it towards the higher tier of racing wheels.
The Gran Turismo Direct Drive Extreme is currently available to preorder with availability from 29 February according to Fanatec's website. For those looking to upgrade their sim rigs, you’d better get in early to beat the rest of the grid.
