  • Primary Subject: Need for Speed Rivals (TurboRivals fan server, public server update)
  • Key Update: A year after EA’s shutdown, fan project TurboRivals adds public servers, a server browser, and a rebuilt Overwatch web app to Need for Speed Rivals.
  • Status: Confirmed (announced by the developer, not yet reflected on GitHub)
  • Last Verified: October 15, 2026
  • Quick Answer: Yes. Fan project TurboRivals restores Need for Speed Rivals’ AllDrive multiplayer on PC, with public servers, a server browser, and private VPN sessions.

Need for Speed Rivals has public multiplayer again, a year after EA switched its servers off. Its developer, who posts as Turbotoster7, says TurboRivals now offers public servers and a server browser.

TurboRivals is a fan-made replacement server. Anyone with a PC copy of Rivals can drop back into AllDrive without setting up a VPN first.

EA ended Rivals' online services on October 7, 2025. The campaign still runs offline, but AllDrive went with the servers. That was the shared open world where cops and racers crossed paths without a lobby.

I mentioned the project in my Ghost Games retrospective, and it has moved quickly since.

TurboRivals Brings AllDrive Back for Up to Six Players

TurboRivals stands in for the service EA retired. It is open source and MIT-licensed on GitHub, and it ships no game files. You play with your own copy of Rivals on Steam or the EA App.

Sessions hold up to six players and keep going when the host leaves. Career progress, speed walls, player names, and profile pictures all carry over between sessions.

Until now, internet play meant everyone joining the same VPN. My friends and I have been running it that way over ZeroTier, and it has held up well across regular sessions.

Public Servers Drop the VPN and Port Forwarding

The new update adds a server browser, so players can pick a public server from a list and play. Hosts can also run private lobbies from home.

The developer says a new relay network removes the need for port forwarding.

The update also adds:

  • bans based on hashed device IDs
  • kick and ban tools for hosts
  • career saves and speed walls synced to the server
  • encrypted traffic between the launcher and the server

Turbotoster7 says the public servers already have an active player base and full sessions, but I haven't been able to verify player counts myself.

TurboWatch Rebuilds the Overwatch App

The developer is also rebuilding Overwatch, the companion app EA shut down on March 15, 2018. TurboWatch shows every online player on a live map of Redview County, with cops in blue and racers in amber.

From a browser, you can send a driver nitrous or a repair, or hit them with a jammer, roadblock, or helicopter. Coins earned from escapes, busts, and takedowns unlock more abilities. Players can switch the feature off for themselves.

It goes further than EA's version did. There are clans with player hunts and trading, plus 16 daily challenges drawn from a pool of 150. Every camera, zone, jump, and event has its own leaderboard.

According to the developer, daily chests use in-game coins only, with no real money involved. Players link their EA ID with a code shown in their own game, and the site runs without ads or trackers.

Why I'm Sticking to Private Sessions for Now

I'm not sure about the security side yet, so I'm keeping to private sessions with friends. The launcher is unsigned, so Windows flags it on install.

It needs administrator rights to edit your hosts file and firewall rules. It also creates a stand-in certificate so the game trusts the replacement server.

The login your game sends also carries an EA auth code, which the project's own documentation warns never to share. On a friend's server, that goes to a friend. On a public server, it goes to whoever runs it.

There is a transparency gap too. As of this writing, the GitHub repository and its releases describe LAN and VPN play only. The public server build is only shared through the project's Discord server, and none of its features appear in the published code.

How to Set Up a Private TurboRivals Session

  1. Make sure everyone owns Rivals and has the EA App installed and signed in. Launch Rivals once the normal way and play until it saves, or the launcher won't find your career.
  2. Get everyone on the same network. The project recommends Radmin VPN, but ZeroTier works too. Players under one roof can skip this step.
  3. Download the setup installer from the TurboRivals GitHub releases page or from the Discord. Use the installer rather than a zip, and let the launcher ask for administrator rights.
  4. The host opens Host a Session and picks their VPN address. On the first run, they generate the certificate. They then turn on the host's redirect, add the firewall rules, start the server, and launch the game.
  5. Guests open Join a Session, enter the host's address, add the firewall rules, and launch the game from the launcher.
  6. In the game, set the session to public. The server drops everyone into the host's game.
  7. When you're done, close the game, stop the server, and turn the host's redirect off, as a leftover redirect breaks the EA App for other EA games.

More Features Are Coming in Daily Updates

The developer says TurboRivals is under daily development. Bug reports go through GitHub issues and the project's Discord.

The private-session installer is on the TurboRivals GitHub releases page now, while the public server build is only available through the project's Discord server.
