Ferrari Vision GT revealed at 2022 Gran Turismo World Finals
Designed as a single-seater, the Ferrari Vision GT is the first ever Ferrari concept car created specifically for Gran Turismo, joining the likes of the Bugatti Vision GT and the more recent Porsche 918 Spyder Vision GT.
Taking inspiration from legendary 1960s and 70sā Ferrari racing prototypes such as the 330 P3 and 512 S, Ferrari says the Vision GT represents a āfuturistic design manifesto for Ferrariās road and racing cars.ā
āThe idea was to imagine what kind of shape the supercar of the future will have. This was not simple. It was a project that involved all the departments of Ferrari, especially aerodynamics and engineering, which defined the concept of this car,ā Ferrariās senior vice president of design Flavio Manzoni explained in a presentation reported by GTPlanet.
āThe idea was to create something that looks like a contradiction but it is not. We wanted to build something precise and sharp, but also organic. This contradiction makes something really special. It makes a new language and vocabulary that can inspire us in future years. We wanted a kind of seamless effect between the inner and outer surfaces, to create an organic object where art and science merge together.ā
As for what lies under the bonnet, the Ferrari Vision GT utilises the 3-litre V6 turbo as the 296 GTB road car and 499P Le Mans Hypercar.
But since the Vision GT doesnāt need to meet regulations, Ferrari has uprated the engine to deliver 1015 hp at 9000 rpm, with an additional 321 hp available from three electric motors ā one on the rear axle and two on the front wheels. It also boasts electric boost and an energy recovery technology derived from Formula 1.
Inside, the steering wheel is inspired by Gran Turismo, incorporating joysticks like a game controller.
Interestingly, the wheel has not mechanically connected. Instead, using steer-by-wire technology that produces its own force feedback like a Thrustmaster or Fanatec racing wheel.
