In just a few hours, Kylotonn will lift the covers on Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, the upcoming sequel to Test Drive Unlimited 2 and the first TDU game in over ten years, at tonight's Nacon Connect presentation.
Since the open-world racer was announced in 2020, TDUSC has only been shown off in CGI screenshots, but we’re hoping to finally see some gameplay at tonight’s show.
Ahead of tonight’s showcase, a screenshot gives us a taste of the nightlife in TDUSC's Hong Kong Island.
First Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown screenshot
Shared on social media, this is the first official in-game screenshot of TDUSC. The screenshot showcases the night-time city streets of Hong Kong Island. Sadly, no car models are shown and the city is empty, devoid of traffic and cars.
Some users have responded saying the TDUSC looks dated in the screenshot despite being cancelled on PS4 and Xbox One. However, it’s worth noting the screenshot is based on an early alpha version of the game. This means it doesn't represent the quality of the final game.
French studio Kylotonn is also a comparatively small team compared to Polyphony Digital and Turn 10, so it’s unreasonable to expect TDUSC to match the fidelity of Gran Turismo 7 and Forza Motorsport – especially when it has an open-world 1:1 recreation of Hong Kong Island.
The game is also likely to look better in motion, but the screenshots suggest any footage shown tonight will be based on an early build of the game.
Originally planned for a September 2022 release, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is delayed until 2023 with no firm release date. We may get a new release date tonight during Nacon Connect.
Nacon Connect
Test Drive Solar Crown will be shown at Nacon Connect, which will be streamed on YouTube and Twitch at 6pm BST/7pm CEST/10am PT. WRC Generations will also be shown at the event.
