As one of the most enduringly popular games, Fortnite is no stranger to automotive collaborations, from McLaren to NASCAR. Tesla is the latest car manufacturer to join Fortnite, with the Cybertruck making its video game debut in Fortnite and Rocket League.

Since it was unveiled in 2019, the Cybertruck has been polarizing, primarily thanks to its futuristic, angular design that doesn’t comply with EU safety regulations. As a result, it’s currently only sold in North America. Its unveiling was also botched when a window broke during a demonstration of the Cybertruck’s supposedly shatterproof glass.

Unsurprisingly, the Cybertruck’s debut in Fortnite hasn’t gone down well with fans. Even Fortnite's own developers at Epic Games aren’t fans of the Tesla Cybertruck.

“That truck looks f***ing silly and the CEO of that company is a piece of sh*t”

"Reminder that 1) Voting with your wallet works and sentiment on social media is a tangible factor," Fortnite Festival producer Kyle Wynn wrote, as reported by Eurogamer. "2) Companies are composed of lots of different people with their own unique opinions. 3) That truck looks f***ing silly and the CEO of that company is a piece of sh*t."

"Reminder that opinions are mine and mine alone," another Epic Games developer, who has since made their X account private, wrote. "Destroy on sight [middle finger emoji]."

The Cybertruck has also faced backlash from players, who are encouraging others to hunt down anyone seen driving the controversial electric truck on Reddit. “I always wanted to ride a trash bin in Fortnite,” one Reddit user wrote. Others have mocked the Cybertruck’s mechanical issues and take issue endorsing anything associated with Elon Musk.

Since the backlash, Epic Games has confirmed that the Cybertruck is a free reward for Fortnite players, so Elon Musk won’t earn any extra revenue from downloads. To unlock it, players must log in and complete nine in-game quests between now and August 7. These quests range from earning a certain amount of XP (either solo or in a party) in creator-made islands, Fortnite Battle Royale, Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, or Fortnite Festival.

What does the Tesla Cybertruck Bundle include?

Completing these quests unlocks the Tesla Cybertruck Bundle, which includes the following:

  • Tesla Cybertruck Car Body
  • CyberCamo Cybertruck Decal
  • Matte Black Cybertruck Decal
  • Stainless Steel Cybertruck Decal
  • OMG Cybertruck Decal
  • Cyber Wheels

Additionally, the Tesla Cybertruck Bundle is a cross-game unlock in Rocket League.
