Forza Motorsport: New AI and Physics Details Revealed

Forza Motorsport has had some new AI and physics details revealed in its monthly update for July 2023.

With the jump up to new hardware for Forza Motorsport, this game will have the best AI-controlled cars that the series has ever seen. There are also marked improvements to the game's physics model compared with previous iterations.

There was also information regarding Forza Horizon 5 and a whole lot more! Here are all the highlights from the stream!

Forza Motorsport: New AI and physics details revealed

Creative Director Chris Esaki joined host Leahviathan to share details about the upcoming Forza Motorsport game. With Forza Motorsport launching in October, the game will be all but finished and ready to hit shelves.

One of the biggest upgrades for Forza Motorsport will be in its technical areas. These include the AI, which we saw a direct comparison between Forza Motorsport's and Forza 7's.

The result was a clear victory for Motorsport, which set a lap time 13 seconds faster than Forza 7's. In terms of raw speed, it's not even close and this shows that the AI in Forza can compete with the best players in the world.

Forza Motorsport will also ditch the "cheats" that Turn 10 had to use to artificially increase their AI's pace. The AI are now quick in a much more realistic way and there are more options than ever before for the AI's difficulty.

Forza Motorsport physics

On the physics front, serious work has been carried out to make this the most realistic Forza game ever. For example, the tyre model in-game has been upgraded from a 60 Hz refresh rate to 360 Hz.

That effectively makes the fidelity of the tyre model 24 times what it used to be and reacts to situations six times faster than in Forza Motorsport 7.

To illustrate the difference, Esaki compared the level of detail between Motorsport and FM7 and the difference was incredible. It really was like going from SD to HD in terms of detail.

You'll have to see the stream to fully appreciate the difference, but this could revolutionise how we approach tyre management while racing.

Forza Motorsport: New Forza focuses on circuit racing only

Something else that's worth a mention is the change in direction for the Forza Motorsport series that was confirmed by Esaki.

With the jump to Xbox Series X | S, it's only natural to have an upgrade in terms of the physics and handling of the game. Esaki confirmed that this will be the case, along with a more "focused" car and track list on launch day.

So, while we won't have as many fantasy circuits and novelty cars to enjoy, the circuits and cars we will see will be better quality than ever before in Forza.

Esaki also confirmed that the drift and drag game modes won't be available in Forza Motorsport on launch day.

Esaki did jump onto the game himself as well to show off the new game around South Africa's Kyalami Circuit. It looked and sounded fantastic, we're in for a real treat come October!
