Forza Motorsport’s Outdated Car Models Are Finally Being Remodeled

After a troubled launch last year, Forza Motorsport is slowly getting back on track. Recent updates have added missing tracks and welcomed quality-of-life improvements, from reworking the car progression system to overhauling the multiplayer safety ratings and matchmaking. However, one of the most glaring issues still persists.

For years, fans have complained about Forza Motorsport’s outdated car models. Despite being heavily marketed as “built from the ground up,” some car models in Forza Motorsport are allegedly as old as the first game on the original Xbox.

Thankfully, Turn 10 is answering players’ prayers by remodeling Forza Motorsport’s most ancient car models at long last.

Turn 10 is rebuilding Forza Motorsport’s most notoriously outdated cars

As a thread on the Forza Subreddit highlights, players have been complaining about Forza’s inaccurate car models in multiple threads on the official Forza forum. Until now, Turn 10 has remained silent about this topic. Now, several threads have been closed with the following message from a Forza Support member: “We’re closing this thread because we know we will be rebuilding this car in the future. Thanks for being patient with us!”

One of the most notorious and ridiculed car models in Forza Motorsport is the S15 Nissan Silvia Spec-R 2000. As an old Reddit thread shows, it’s riddled with inaccuracies. The body shape doesn’t match the real car and the side skirts and front bumper lights on the 2000 model Forza’s car is based on are missing.

Despite this, Turn 10 keeps reusing old car models, with some players believing the Silvia hasn’t been updated since the first Forza Motorsport game on the original Xbox in 2005. Thankfully, this is set to change as the Nissan Silvia has been closed.

Additional threads for the 1992 BMW M3 (E30), 1999 Dodge Viper GTS ACR, 2002 Ferrari 575M Maranello, 2003 Ford Focus RS, 1997 Mazda RX-7 (FD3S), 1999 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI MR, and 1993 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec (R32) were also closed, so these cars will also be rebuilt.

When will Forza Motorsport's cars be updated?

Unfortunately, Turn 10 hasn’t provided a timeline for when these cars will be remodeled. Modeling cars with the level of detail players expect in modern games takes a long time, so don't expect them to arrive anytime soon – Kazunori Yamauchi has said it takes nearly nine months to model one car in Gran Turismo 7.

Don't expect the remodeled cars to appear in the current Forza Motorsport, either. In the same Reddit thread, a Turn 10 representative replied, clarifying that the team has a "list of cars we're chasing down to be rebuilt" but they "will likely be with future games as we aren't able to just swap out the old models for the new in existing games without potentially breaking other things in the process."

They also added that it "may take a while to get them showing up in games" because "sourcing and building cars takes many months or even a year+ depending on how hard it is to find a museum-quality car, licensing, etc etc."

The rebuilt cars could potentially appear in a new Forza Motorsport title or Forza Horizon 6. Since car models are shared between Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon,it would make sense to start rebuilding the old cars in time for Forza Horizon 6, which has yet to be announced.

The next Forza Horizon isn’t expected to arrive until later this year or 2025 at the earliest. We may get a glimpse of Forza Horizon 6 at Microsoft’s Xbox Game Showcase next month, but nothing is confirmed yet. Either way, it's probably going to be a long time until these car models get updated, but better late than never.
