Gran Turismo 7 is getting PSVR 2 support

After months of speculation, itā€™s now official: Gran Turismo 7 will support PSVR 2 when the headset launches in February.

Gran Turismo 7 PSVR 2 support confirmed

During Sonyā€™s CES 2023 conference in Las Vegas, Sony Interactive Entertainmentā€™s President and CEO Jim Ryan announced that Gran Turismo 7 is getting PSVR 2 support.

ā€œToday, I am excited to announce that one of our most storied franchises will be coming to PSVR 2 at launch - Gran Turismo.ā€

PSVR 2 support will be added to Gran Turismo 7 via a free update when the headset goes on sale on February 22. So far, Gran Turismo 7 is the only racing game announced for PSVR 2. But if thereā€™s one racing game that will showcase the PSVR 2ā€™s prowess, itā€™s GT7.

First Gran Turismo 7 PSVR 2 gameplay

Although Ryan didnā€™t reveal how VR will be incorporated into GT7, the CEO teased that ā€œPSVR 2 players will be able to experience the game like never before,ā€. However, a demonstration video at the conference gives us a first glimpse at Gran Turismo 7 PSVR 2 gameplay.

Featuring the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo, the video shows a race at Road Atlanta with at least 12 opponents. Thatā€™s a significant improvement over Gran Turismo Sport, which was limited to head-to-head races and time trials in VR.

The image looks a tad too dark and while the visuals are downgraded, GT7 still looks stunning in VR.

What we donā€™t know yet is whether GT7 PSVR 2 support will be limited to a standalone mode or if the full game is playable in VR. It also hasnā€™t been confirmed if you can view cars in a showroom in VR like in GT Sport.

Some of the recent updates have been lacklustre, but PSVR 2 support should give GT7 a new lease of life just in time for the gameā€™s first anniversary in March.

With its 4K-resolution OLED screen, eye tracking, and haptic feedback, PSVR 2 will be a significant upgrade over the original headset. We canā€™t wait to see how it will revolutionise racing games.

If GT7 has persuaded you to take the plunge and buy a PSVR 2 headset, you can preorder it from PlayStation Direct priced at Ā£529.99/$549.99.
