After skipping December's update, Gran Turismo 7's first update of 2024 is here. Available to download now, update 1.42 brings three new cars, new Menu Books, and new events. Here's everything you need to know about Gran Turismo 7 update 1.42.
Three new cars
Following Kazunori's teaser last weekend, Polyphony Digital has confirmed the identities of the three new cars coming to Gran Turismo 7 in update 1.42: Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept, Bulgari Aluminium Vision Gran Turismo, and the boxy 2018 Suzuki Jimny XC.
Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept
Unveiled at the World Finals last December and designed specifically for GT7, the sleek Genesis Vision GT boasts an electrified V6 engine producing 1,071 hp. It won't be cheap to buy, but players who entered the Viewers’ Gift Campaign last December can download it for free.
Bulgari Aluminium Vision Gran Turismo
Alongside the Genesis is the Bulgari Aluminium Vision GT. Adopting an unusual open-cockpit design and wedge shape, the Aluminium Vision GT marks the Italian fashion brand’s first foray into car design. It won't be available to everyone until an unspecified date at the end of February, however.
Those who bought the Bulgari Aluminium Gran Turismo Special Edition watch can get access before the concept car's official release.
2018 Suzuki Jimny XC
Finally we have the boxy 2018 Suzuki Jimny, specifically the fourth-generation model. A quirky addition to GT7's car roster, the compact off-roader Vpacks a 660cc turbo engine delivering 63 hp. That's a modest power output, but the agile off-roader should be fun to chuck around Lakeshore in the new Jimny Cup event.
Both the Suzuki Jimny XC and Genesis Vision GT will be available to buy from Brand Central when update 1.42 goes live.
New Menu Books and World Circuits events
In addition, update 1.42 will add two new car-collecting Menu Books to complete focusing on Nissan Motorsports and Dodge:
- [Extra Menu No. 34] Collection: Nissan Motorsports (Collector Level 46 and above)
- [Extra Menu No. 35] Collection: Dodge (Collector Level 32 and above)
There are also two new World Circuit events to enter:
Jimny Cup
- Sardegna - Windmills/Willow Springs International Raceway/Lake Louise
Vision Gran Turismo Trophy
- Tokyo Expressway/Autodromo Nazionale Monza
Finally, the update adds new Elbina Service Area and Multistorey Car Park Scape locations along with new versions of existing Scape locations with a new vertical camera view.
Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.42 release date
Gran Turismo 7 update 1.42 will arrive on Thursday 25 January, with server maintenance scheduled between 06:00 UTC and 08:00 UTC. Once the maintenance is complete, the update will be available to download. Game modes that require an online connection will be inaccessible during server maintenance.
November’s Spec II update was more substantial than most, introducing Weekly Challenges, races against Sophy AI, and a new snow track to slide around.
With Gran Turismo 8 already in development, GT7 may not get monthly updates in 2024 as Polyphony shifts focus onto the next game. In an interview with GTPlanet last year, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that GT7 updates weren't intended to be monthly and may be more spread out in the future.
