After last week’s lack of update left GT7 players disappointed, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed on X that Gran Turismo 7 update 1.40 will launch this week, one week later than originally expected. Just as rumours have suggested, Kazunori teased this will be “a big update” to get fans excited.
Kazunori teases 7 new cars for Gran Turismo 7 update 1.40
Over the weekend, Kazunori shared his usual teaser image for the next GT7 update on X showing cars masked as silhouettes.
Update 1.40 will feature seven new cars, making it the largest Gran Turismo 7 update yet in terms of car content, beating the previous record of five in previous updates. As always, fans have seemingly identified the cars in the teaser, though most are easy to guess.
Highlighting the front row appears to be the Lexus LFA, Nismo Skyline 400R, and Porsche 911 GT3 RS 992. With its sweet-sounding V10, the LFA is one of the most requested cars in GT7.
Despite its popularity, it never appeared in Gran Turismo Sport, meaning it hasn’t featured in a Gran Turismo game since GT6 in 2013. Lexus only built 500 examples of its V10 halo car but has yet to announce a replacement.
Exclusive to Japan, the 400R is a modified version of the R33 Skyline built by Nissan’s Nismo performance division uprated to 400hp. As for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, this will not only be the current 992 model’s Gran Turismo debut but its outright video game debut. Boasting an aggressive aero package and a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six, it made a brief appearance in the Gran Turismo movie.
American muscle dominates the top row. From left to right, we have what looks like a 1960s Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger Demon, Tesla Model 3, and Mercedes-Benz 190E. The Demon and Model 3 will make their Gran Turismo debuts in the update.
Based on the Challenger Hellcat, the Demon boasts a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 sending a whopping 840-hp to the rear wheels. One of the most extreme Challengers ever built, the Demon will undoubtedly be a handful to drive in GT7. The Model 3 is likely to be the Performance variant, which has a 450-hp dual-motor setup.
With seven cars joining the roster, update 1.40 is set to be one of the best GT7 updates in a long time. Kazunori hasn’t said what else we can expect, but we’re hoping to get a new circuit to race on. Now would also be a good time to implement the Sophy AI update to steal Forza Motorsport’s thunder.
Gran Turismo 7 update 1.40 release date
Kazunori confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 update 1.40 will roll out this week. No date was announced, but GT7 updates usually launch on Thursdays. That means we can expect update 1.40 to launch on Thursday 2 November. We should get a trailer and find out more details the day before.
GT7’s monthly updates have left a lot to be desired lately. Hopefully, update 1.40 will live up to the hype.
