After over a month of shooting on track, the Gran Turismo movie adaptation has finished filming.
Gran Turismo movie "broke new grounds on how to film race cars"
Stunt driver Mauro Calo announced on Twitter that filming for the Gran Turismo movie adaptation is complete after seven weeks of shooting.
Photos shared by Calo show a Nissan GTR equipped with a camera rig used to film the various racing scenes at the Dubai Autodrome. According to Calo, the crew “broke new grounds on how to film race cars.”
This is encouraging as it sounds like the racing scenes were filmed practically like in Ford V Ferrari rather than relying on CGI like the Fast and Furious films.
“That’s a wrap on 7 weeks filming around the world on the fastest film ever made,” he said. “The GranTurismo movie. From +35 degrees to -5 my incredible @Nissan GTR camera car performed faultlessly."
"We broke new grounds on how to film race cars actually racing. Incredible journey.”
In a plot reminiscent of the GT Academy, the Gran Turismo movie charts the story of a young teenage gamer played by Archie Madekwe who becomes a racing driver for Nissan after winning an esports competition.
It’s based on the incredible true story of Jann Mardenborough, the winner of the 2011 GT Academy who went on to finish second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans LMP2 class in 2013.
Release date
With filming now finished, we should see a Gran Turismo movie trailer early next year ahead of the film’s theatrical release date slated for 11 August 2023.
