Here’s a new racing game that probably wasn’t on your radar. Hot Lap Racing is a new simcade track racer for Nintendo Switch – a genre you don’t see often on the platform, though it’s also heading to PC.
Ahead of its release in a couple of weeks, Hot Lap Racing’s full car list has been revealed. And it’s one of the most unique and interesting car rosters we’ve seen in a racing game lately.
A celebration of motorsport
Developed by Zero Games Studio, Hot Lap Racing will feature 53 cars at launch. While it may not have hundreds of cars like Gran Turismo 7 and Forza Motorsport, the diversity of Hot Lap Racing’s car roster makes up for it.
The unique car roster celebrates the history of motorsport with cars spanning multiple eras, from the 1960s Brabham BT24 to the latest Peugeot 9X8 Le Mans prototype and classic 1990s BTCC cars like the Renault Laguna and Vauxhall Cavalier. Many of these cars aren’t often seen in modern racing games, and certainly not on Nintendo Switch.
There’s even a fictional concept car with a design voted by the community. Not every vehicle is licensed, but the design inspiration should be obvious to motorsport fans.
In a unique twist, the grids can be mixed up with multiple classes, allowing you to race against vintage single-seaters and Le Mans prototypes in the same field. Alternatively, you can race in separate GT, endurance, and single-seater categories.
