You may want to setup an online server so that you and your friends can play Assetto Corsa together.
However, setting up your own private or public server and getting involved in online races might seem a little tricky.
Table of Contents
Here, we'll try to explain in the simplest terms how it's done.
Setting up a server in Assetto Corsa
Firstly, we'd recommend downloading the Assetto Corsa Content Manager - just to make life easier!
It can be downloaded for free, here. However, to use the Server tab, you'll need to pay for the full version of the app - which can be done by donating any amount to the team behind it.
Of course, you don't have to use the Content Manager, as the file location can be found here:
Steam\steamapps\common\assettocorsa\server, or your Steam library.
Port forwarding
Next, you'll need to open three ports on your router to run your own server. To do this, you'll need to locate the Port Forwarding section. A guide on how to access your router can be found here.
Each router page may look a little different, depending on the type of router you own. In general, somewhere on the Port Forwarding tab, you'll be able to see an option to add a port. Before you do this, there will be several boxes you need to complete.
One will ask for your 'local IP', and in here you'll want to enter the IP from the PC you will be running the server from. This will be the same PC you play the game on, unless you are running the server on a separate PC - in which case enter the IP from that PC.
Next, enter 9600 in 'local start', 'end port', 'external start' and 'external end'.
'Protocol' should be set to both, but some routers don't allow this. If this is the case for you, then this one should be UDP. Repeat the process and make the protocol TCP so you have two identical ports (both 9600) but with different protocols.
Now add another port with the port 8081 on the internal and external start and end ports. This will be used as the HTML port, so use TCP for this one.
Setting up
Once you've done all of that, you'll now need set everything up in the Content Manager or Dedicated Server.
This is all down to you; your desired cars, tracks and race settings.
