How to use clutch in Gran Turismo 7

If you’ve never played a Gran Turismo game, getting started in Gran Turismo 7 can be daunting. There's a good reason why Gran Turismo games are billed as “the real driving simulator.” Thankfully, GT7 offers an assortment of driving assists for less experienced drivers, including automatic gears.

When you’re ready to move from automatic to manual gear shifting, advanced drivers can use a clutch in GT7. Switching to manual mode with a clutch pedal offers more precise control of the car. Here’s how to use clutch in Gran Turismo 7.

Switching to manual

If you want to drive using a clutch in GT7, you’ll need a steering wheel and a gear shifter. If you usually drive with automatic gears, you’ll also need to switch to manual gears.

Before starting an event, use the d-pad or left analogue stick to scroll to the Settings tab and press Cross. Next, select Assist Settings > Gears. Here, you can change from Automatic to Manual gears.

How to use clutch in Gran Turismo 7

If you have a wheel, gear stick and a pedal set with a clutch, the paddle shifters are selected automatically by default. When using paddle shifters, the clutch pedal is disengaged. This is easy to change, however.

By default, Auto-clutch mode is enabled when using a gear stick like the Thrustmaster TH8 RS shifter. To activate the clutch, simply step on the clutch pedal. This will switch from auto clutch to Full Manual Mode, enabling you to use the gear stick and clutch pedal. Step on the clutch pedal when shifting.

Using the paddle shifters in Auto-clutch or Full Manual Mode will automatically switch back to paddle-shift mode.

Even with a manual transmission enabled, some cars with torque converters, continuously variable transmissions, or dual clutches can’t be used with a clutch pedal.
