Open world racing titles tend to be focused on arcade-style racing. That could all be about to change with Assetto Corsa Evo... Maybe.

Fans have wanted an open world side of Assetto Corsa for a long time. There are plenty of mods that can put you into city streets, but nothing that really fulfills the dream of a Forza Horizon or Need for Speed style map with the physics and handling of Assetto Corsa.

But Assetto Corsa Evo might just be open world, at least partially.

Is Assetto Corsa Evo Open World?

The recent announcement trailer for Assetto Corsa Evo has everyone buzzing, as along with the usual shots of familiar circuits it included cars driving on normal roads.

Now there are road circuits in Assetto Corsa, so it might just be more of these. But there is more to go on than just one car driving down a road, because in another brief snippet from the trailer we get traffic driving the other way on the road.

This has stirred excitement in the racing community about the potential for open world driving in AC Evo.

Of course, it is not confirmation of anything. The Evo trailer had a strong Gran Turismo vibe, so maybe these shots are from a photo mode similar to Scapes.

Maybe these examples are link roads that you can drive between tracks. Driving from your home garage to the track would be a thrilling experience.

Assetto Corsa Evo is going to be a classic track racer at its core, so it won't be a fully open world title like Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. But having the option to go cruising around an open map similar to something like Isle of Man TT offers? That would be amazing.
