Open-world racing titles tend to be focused on arcade-style racing. That could all be about to change with Assetto Corsa Evo... Maybe.

Fans have wanted an open-world side of Assetto Corsa for a long time. There are plenty of mods that can put you into city streets, but nothing that really fulfills the dream of a Forza Horizon or Need for Speed style map with the physics and handling of Assetto Corsa.

But Assetto Corsa Evo might just be open-world, at least partially.

Is Assetto Corsa Evo Open World?

The recent announcement trailer for Assetto Corsa Evo has everyone buzzing, as along with the usual shots of familiar circuits it included cars driving on normal roads.

At the ADAC SimRacing Expo in Germany, free-roam was confirmed for Assetto Corsa Evo. This will include adaptable and intelligent traffic.

It's unclear just how big the free-roam areas will be. The roads around the Nurburgring featured in the announcement trailer, but the inclusion of traffic in the standard game without mods is amazing news.

Assetto Corsa Evo is going to be a classic track racer at its core, so it won't be a fully open world title like Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. But having the option to go cruising around an open map similar to something like Isle of Man TT offers? That would be amazing.
