Ready for Forza Horizon 5? The open-world racer is set for release soon and we're excited by the massive car list and huge Mexican map. PC players have a big question though: is Forza Horizon 5 coming to Steam?
Forza Horizon 5 on PC
While the first few Forza Horizon games were Xbox only, the fourth edition was released for PC players via the Microsoft Store and also on Steam. Forza Horizon 5 will also be available to play on PC as well as Xbox. You'll be able to purchase Forza Horizon 5 through either the Microsoft Store or through Steam.
In fact, PC players get an interesting feature that Xbox players will miss out on. Support for ultrawide monitors is in the game, whereas the Xbox version targets normal television resolutions.
Forza Horizon 5 PC release date
The release date for Forza Horizon 5 is the 9th of November. That is unless you purchase one of the upgraded editions! This is the case for both the Microsoft Store and Steam.
If you do buy the Premium Edition you can also look forward to two expansions, when they are released, as well as other perks.
SteamOS and Linux support
SteamOS, the operating system for Steam Machines and the Steam Deck, is a popular choice for gamers looking to avoid Windows. Unfortunately, not every game supports SteamOS or Linux generally.
Forza Horizon 5 will require Windows to run on a PC. It won't run on a SteamOS computer such as the Steam Deck or any other Linux machine. It's a bit of a shame that we won't be able to pick up a Steam Deck and play Forza Horizon 5 on the bus.
What about cross-play?
Cross-play is one of the most demanded features. The good news is that Forza Horizon 5 supports cross-play between Steam, Windows, and indeed Xbox players.
However, your saved games won't transfer between your Xbox and your Steam accounts. Cross-saving is only supported if you purchase through the Microsoft Store. Worth knowing if you regularly jump between PC and Xbox playing!
