Is LEGO 2K Drive open world?

LEGO 2K Drive’s Bricklandia is split into four main biomes. After completing mandatory tutorials in the smaller Turbo Acres area, you’ll unlock Big Butte, Prospecto Valley and Hauntsborough before entering the final Sky Cup race.

Each biome has a distinct environment, from the city streets of Turbo Acres to the desert canyons of Big Butte. They are fully destructible too, appealing to your inner child.

Smashing into traffic cars, trees or fences causes them to explode into hundreds of LEGO bricks. Smashing up the scenery is not only fun, but it’s also an effective way of charging up your boost.

LEGO 2K Drive’s unique vehicle transformation further enhances the exploration. Depending on the terrain, your vehicle will seamlessly switch between a car, off-roader or boat.

Between main races, side quests and challenges, you can freely drive around each biome, exploring roads, dirt tracks and rivers. This means that yes, LEGO 2K Drive is open world. There is, however, a caveat.

While you can freely explore each biome, none of them are connected. This means you can’t drive seamlessly to each location. Instead, you need to fast-travel between locations using garages on the map and wait for the biome to load. This is likely necessary due to the limitations of the Nintendo Switch.

Even so, exploring every inch of Bricklandia is a lot of fun. Each biome is full of secret areas, minigames, collectables, and side quests to complete, so there’s always something new to do.
