Here at RacingGames.gg, we are huge fans of Mario Kart, and not just because it's one of the few racing games where we can easily get a win.
Thanks to some clever AI work from a YouTuber, we've had our first look at what the game could look like on the console.
So, let's take a look at Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in 4K resolution now!
Mario Kart in 4K
As aforementioned, this visual fidelity in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is thanks to some clever AI trickery.
Well, not trickery of course, but similar to. The YouTuber, SnazzyAI, has managed to achieve upscaling in the kart-based arcade game.
This means that, with a 1080p base resolution, the AI is able to 'fill in' some of the gaps on a 4K monitor or TV, hence creating a 4K image.
With a game like MK8, which has a nice, standard arcade-y art style, it is much easier for the AI to create an impressive upscaled 4K image.
MK8 4K on PC
Thanks to the power of the internet, a 4K Mario Kart experience has been available for a while.
Using a Wii U emulator on the PC, fans of the franchise can play native 4K resolution on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
This emulator also adds other 'next-gen' features to the game. The most notable is ray tracing, which helps make the game appear even more visually stunning.
Mario Kart 64 Remaster
We recently did a piece saying that we needed a remaster of Mario Kart 64, and we stand by that.
With a console like the potential Switch Pro, we can't see why a 4K Mario Kart 64 couldn't be gracing our screen in the near future.
Of course, we still don't have any confirmation from Nintendo that a console is in the works. However, we hope they do, and a native 4K Mario Kart experience in our hands would be incredible!
