Need for Speed Unbound cop chase gameplay revealed in Risk & Reward trailer

Need for Speed Unbound was only revealed a few weeks ago, but with the 2 December release date looming, EA has treated us to a new gameplay video.

After last week’s customisation breakdown, this latest gameplay trailer gives us a first proper look at Need for Speed Unbound cop chase gameplay.

Whereas the official reveal trailer only contained game engine footage, the new Need for Speed Unbound trailer shows plenty of thrilling gameplay footage.

Police chases have been a staple in Need for Speed for years, and this isn’t changing in Unbound. In the Risk & Reward gameplay trailer, a Lotus Exige outruns the cops and rams through roadblocks in a thrilling high-speed chase.

This time, cops can surprise racers and give chase mid-event, making races exciting and unpredictable.

There’s an emphasis on risk and reward, with “new escape mechanics” rewarding bonus cash payouts for evading the cops. Extra cash can be earned by entering Weekly Qualifier events or placing side bets on rival racers. Qualifying in all four weeks enables you to enter "Lakeshore’s ultimate racing challenge" called The grand.

In higher-level pursuits, Corvette cop cars and police helicopters will track you down, with the trailer showing as many as seven cop cars joining a pursuit.

Takedowns from Hot Pursuit are also back, albeit without the satisfying takedown cameras. One scene in the trailer shows the player car forcing a cop car into the path of an oncoming truck and being hit head-on in a spectacular crash.

Release date

The Need for Speed Unbound release date is set for 2 December for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If you want to play it three days earlier, the deluxe Palace Edition unlocks the game on 29 November.
