It’s the day rFactor 2 players have been waiting for as the much-anticipated Q3 2022 Content Drop arrives today. It’s a major update as part of Studio 397’s plan to add new content to rFactor 2 in every quarter. Ahead of today’s launch, Studio 397 has revealed the new cars and tracks included in the Q3 2022 Content Drop.
World Wide Technology Circuit
A laser scan of the World Wide Technology Raceway arrives in rFactor 2 as part of the Q3 2022 Content Drop. Based in Madison, Illinois, the 1.25-mile oval circuit hosts the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NTT IndyCar Series. A configuration based on the 1.6-mile road course, which hosts the Formula Drift Series, is also available.
Caterham Academy
Several new cars are also joining rFactor 2’s roster in the Q3 2022 Content Drop. These include the Caterham Academy car. Based on the Lotus 7, the lightweight Caterham Seven coming to rFactor 2 is based on the entry-level Caterham Academy used in championships that help drivers hone their skills in the lightweight track car.
Power is sourced from a Ford Sigma engine producing a top speed of around 115 mph and a 0-60 mph sprint time of around 5.3 seconds.
Those aren’t exactly earth-shattering performance figures, but the Caterham Academy weighs only 625 kg including the driver, making it nimble and great fun to drive while encouraging close racing. Other Caterham models will be added to rFactor 2 in future quarterly updates.
Hyundai i30 BTCC
Continuing Studio 397’s partnership with the BTCC, the 2021 Hyundai i30 BTCC is also coming to rFactor 2 in today’s update. Run by Excelr8 Motorsport, the Hyundai i30 BTCC debuted in the 2020 season, marking the first time the Korean manufacturer has entered the BTCC. It’s based on the road-going i30 Fastback N Performance hot hatch with a Swindon- developed Hyundai engine sending power to the front wheels.
This is the third BTCC car to be added to rFactor 2 following the Infiniti Q50 and Toyota Corolla GR.
Austin Mini Cooper S MkI Group 2
If you're looking for an entry-level car to get to grips with rFactor 2, look no further than the Mk1 Austin Mini Cooper S Group 2. Arriving in the Q3 2022 Content Drop, the compact race car features a 125-hp 1.3-litre engine, racing suspensions and dampers, and a rollcage.
With its go-kart-style handling and modest engine, the MK1 Mini is a great car for beginners. If you’re craving more power, Studio 397 will also add the modern JCW cup car in a future update.
As well as new cars and a new track, the Q3 2022 Content Update will also include a host of updates and improvements previewed in the July 2022 Release Candidate such as revised ABS physics and Real Road 2.0. We’ll find out more as soon as the patch notes are released.
