rFactor 2 update brings GT3 physics and BOP improvements

rFactor 2 attracted bad publicity after the recent 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual debacle that saw Max Verstappen quit the game in frustration, but Studio 397 continues to improve the PC racing simulation in frequent updates.

While rFactor 2's much-anticipated Q1 2023 update is delayed until 21 February, a smaller update has rolled out bringing tyre physics and BOP improvements for GT3 cars.

With help from experienced drivers and data gathered from different sessions, the rFactor 2 update applies a new Balance of Performance to GT3 cars. Studio 397 says the improvements will “bring a closer level of parity across the various cars within our GT3 category.”

This is just the start though as Studio 397 may make further tweaks and improvements after more players have accessed the cars.

Along with BOP tweaks, Studio 397 has applied numerous physics improvements to the GT3 roster. These include new tyre technology along with the addition of Tender Springs, Shift Protection, new ABS and Traction Control logic and compatibility with the new rFactor 2 sound engine.

In the meantime, Studio 397 is preparing to deploy the Q1 2023 update on 21 February. This promises to be a substantial update with a wealth of content and improvements as the studio delayed the patch due to the “sheer volume of things we are set to bring into this new build.”

Important Notes

  • Radical is still a work in progress and slower than other cars due to work on new tyres. Further work will be done in the next two weeks to improve its performance.
  • Mercedes has been heavily reworked, and we will review it over the next two weeks to ensure it is competitive.
  • Some GT3 cars presently vibrate when in the garage, we are reviewing a fix for this in time for the release in two weeks.
  • We intend to improve the default setups for the next release.
