Details are slowly starting to emerge about the upcoming Gran Turismo movie adaptation. An official Twitter account was set up a few weeks ago with the handle “granturismo,” revealing the movie logo.
Now, a big-name actor has signed onto for the project. Whereas Uncharted starred Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, David Harbour will star in the Gran Turismo movie according to Hollywood Reporter.
Stranger Things’ David Harbour signs up for Gran Turismo movie
In the movie, Harbour will play a retired driver who teaches a teenager to drive. Mirroring the real-life GT Academy, the plot centres on a skilled Gran Turismo gamer who wins a series of esports competitions to become a professional racing driver for Nissan.
Harbour is the first announced cast member for the project, but Sony Pictures has not yet revealed who will play the main character.
Harbour is best known for playing police chief Jim Hopper in Netflix’s Stranger Things. As for movie roles, he starred in the 2019 Hellboy reboot and played roles in Black Widow and Suicide Squad.
Release date
Directed by District 9’sNeill Blomkamp, Gran Turismo will race into theatres on 11 August 2023, with Kazunori Yamauchi serving as Executive Producer.
Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard) are writing the script, while PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan are producing along with Doug Belgrad and Dana Brunetti.
Let’s hope we don’t have to wait much longer to see a trailer to find out how Gran Turismo translates to the big screen.
