After two previous closed playtests, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown has revealed the dates for a third playtest. This session will take place later this month, with selected players invited to take part to help try out the game ready for its full release.

Early driving

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown’s first closed playtest took place in July 2023. This was the first time many players had seen any kind of gameplay, with little footage shown at the time.

This first session was followed up with a second closed playtest three months later in October. Both sessions took place across only three days, with each designed to stress test a specific aspect of the upcoming title.

Both playtests took place after the original release window for the game. Since its first announcement, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown has suffered numerous delays, resulting in its original 2022 release date now looking more like a late 2024 launch.

Despite the delays, gameplay footage has been shown across various events, including the recent The Explorer trailer showcased at Nacon Connect 2024. Players do now however have the chance to experience the game for themselves, but only if they’re quick.

How to sign up for TDU playtest

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the official Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown account has confirmed the dates of a third closed playtest session.

This session will begin on 22 April, with players having two days to try out the game before the chequered flag waves on 24 April. Once again this only gives players a short amount of time to hop into the virtual Hong Kong Island to experience the open-world racer.

It’s also unusual to see that this session won’t span a weekend, potentially reducing the amount of interest from players. Those wanting to help test out Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown can register their interest via the game’s website, with only a select number chosen.

Considering we’re only a matter of months away from a potential release now, this could be the last chance for players to get hands-on early before the game’s full launch.
