Despite The Crew Motorfest launching last September, Ubisoft Ivory Tower is still diligently supporting its predecessor, The Crew 2, six years after its release.
This week saw the release of The Crew 2’s MAD Vol.2 update, which brings a host of new and returning cars over the next four months along with a new Live Summit and an updated Race Creator.
New and returning cars
Out now on all platforms in a free update, The Crew 2’s MAD Vol.2 update adds an eclectic mix of new cars to tear around the US, from modern SUVs to classic sports cars.
The 1969 Maserati Ghibli and Maserati Levante Trofeo are out now, while the 1992 Jaguar XJ220, 2018 Jaguar XE SV Project 8 and 1955 Jaguar D-Type will arrive on 10 April.
In a bizarre situation, the two Maseratis have been added to The Crew 2 before The Crew Motorfest. They won't be available in The Crew Motorfest until July via the Collection Import, despite it being the newer game.
Alongside the new cars, several fan-favourite cars from previous Motorpasses are also returning in March, April, and May, including the 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI Dash Edition, 1986 Proto Flashback, 2013 Jaguar C-X75 Concept Exo Edition, and 2017 BMW M2 Beehive Edition.
Here’s a list of all cars returning in The Crew 2 between March and May:
- 1986 Proto Flashback (6 March)
- 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI Dash Edition (6 March)
- 2013 Jaguar C-X75 Concept Exo Edition (6 March)
- 2017 BMW M2 Beehive Edition (6 March)
- Pagani Zonda F Primary Edition (20 March)
- Chevrolet Corvette C8.R (20 March)
- McLaren 720S Spider Blast Edition (20 March)
- Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ Divine Edition (20 March)
- Chevrolet Camaro RS Ghost Edition (10 April)
- Ford Mustang BOSS 429 Lime Edition (10 April)
- Nissan GT-R Haru Edition (10 April)
- Creators Concept Spruemeister SM71 (10 April)
- Proto Concept Sparrow Competition (15 May)
- Audi RS 5 Coupe USST Official Edition (15 May)
- Lotus Evora GTE Overcut Edition (15 May)
Elsewhere, the Race Creator has been updated to allow players to create races with boats and planes.
In addition, The Crew 2 MAD Vol.2 introduces new Live Summits with the Dodge Charger R/T Hemi MAD Edition unlocked at Platinum Rank, plus 12 new skills and one new hobby, which unlocks the 1985 Mazda RX-7 Evo Group B.
Finally, the latest update also brings several quality-of-life improvements. For example, multiple parts can now be scrapped at the same time and vehicles with an active set bonus will now be marked with a new icon in your collection. You can find out more in the full patch notes here.
It’s the end of an era, however, because MAD Vol.2 marks The Crew 2’s final content update.
Ubisoft ending support for The Crew 2
“Going forward, no new content will be added to The Crew 2 after March's update Mad Vol. 2," Ubisoft Ivory Tower wrote in a community post, although the studio still intends to support the game with bug fixes.
Instead, previous Live Summits, themed weeks or rewards from the last six years will reappear on rotation going forward. “The evolution of this new system is a way for us to let players enjoy a different experience every week,” Ivory Tower says.
Even though The Crew 2 is still popular, ending content updates means the studio can prioritise for The Crew Motorfest. It may also mean that work is underway for a new mainline sequel, i.e. The Crew 3.
With 18 updates packed with new content over the last six years, The Crew 2 has arguably had the best post-launch support of any racing game. Let’s hope The Crew Motorfest gets a similar level of support.
Speaking of Motorfest, Season 3 will start on 13 March next week. Ubisoft Ivory Tower has teased a Hollywood-themed playlist featuring movie car icons like the Aston Martin DB5 and Mini Cooper.
