Set on the idyllic island of O'ahu in Hawaii, The Crew Motorfest is coming to challenge Forza Horizon later this year. While Ubisoft’s open-world racer will be released on a variety of systems, PS5 will be one of the most popular as the console becomes more readily available.
With a lack of open-world arcade racers on the system, The Crew Motorfest will be the next best thing to a Forza Horizon PS5 game. Here’s everything you need to know about The Crew Motorfest on PS5.
The Crew Motorfest PS5
With lightning-fast load times, 4K graphics, and smooth 60fps frame rates, the PlayStation 5 has proven to be an excellent platform for playing racing games. While a free update enhanced The Crew 2 on PS5, Motorfest will be the franchise's first native PS5 release.
Ubisoft hasn’t revealed the resolution and performance details for The Crew Motorfest on PS5 yet. The last entry in the series, The Crew 2, is playable on PS5 at either a dynamic 4K resolution at 30fps in Resolution mode or 1080p at 60fps in Performance mode.
Given the extra power of the PS5, a native 4K resolution should be possible, likely capped at 30fps.
If you want to play The Crew Motorfest in 60fps on PS5, there will likely either be a dynamic 4K resolution option or a Performance mode that runs the game at 1080p and 60fps with lower graphics detail.
The Crew Motorfest will also hopefully take advantage of the PS5’s DualSense controller technology.
As we’ve seen in Gran Turismo 7, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback add to the immersion as you feel the surface of the road, gear changes, and crash impacts through the controller.
Will The Crew Motorfest be on PS4?
As well as PS5, Ubisoft has also confirmed The Crew Motorfest is also coming to PS4. This is unusual at this point considering the original PS4 is ten years old.
We’ve also seen other developers abandon the PS4, with Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, Forza Motorsport, and Need for Speed Unbound skipping the PS4 so developers can fully utilise the latest hardware.
With less horsepower, the PS4 version will likely be capped at 1080p and 30fps, but the PS4 Pro may offer a dynamic 4K resolution. We’re hoping this won’t limit the potential of the PS5 game.
However, it’s possible that a Ubisoft support studio like Ubisoft Reflections, which also helped develop The Crew in 2014, is working on the PS4 game, leaving Ivory Tower to focus on the PS5 version.
A PS4 release could also mean crossplay is possible in online multiplayer, allowing PS4 and PS5 players to race together online.
Pre-Order
Although the game is listed on the PlayStation Store, pre-order details for The Crew Motorfest on PS5 and PS4 are not available yet.
On PS5, we expect the standard edition to retail for £49.99-£59.99. There may also be a deluxe edition with extra cars, early access, and premium content. This will come at a premium though, likely retailing for £59.99-£69.99.
Release date
While a release date is unconfirmed, The Crew Motorfest is slated for a 2023 release later in the year. As well as PS5 and PS4, The Crew Motorfest is also coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Amazon Luna.
Ubisoft is also giving players the opportunity to test The Crew Motorfest early via its Insider Program.
