Here at RacingGames.GG we love pounding around the virtual track on our PCs and consoles. But some games outside of our usual genre have surprisingly good driving or racing elements!
Here are three we’ve been enjoying recently.
Brütal Legend
The bizarre heavy metal-themed RTS from Psychonauts creator Tim Schafer isn't our usual fare. The main character Eddie, voiced by Jack Black, has a pretty excellent ride though. Check out his hot-rod, known as the Deuce:
There are a few missions in the main campaign where you drive the Deuce across the fantasy landscape. You can also summon your car in single or multiplayer battles and plough through hordes of enemies. Alternatively, just hop in and cruise around, enjoying the metal soundtrack and guest appearances from Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy Kilminster.
Rush: A Disney/Pixar Adventure
This game was pretty widely panned upon release. It was effectively a demo for the awful Kinect motion tracking camera. Updated for regular controls, however, it's now a generally enjoyable if a little uneven experience.
Of course here we're focused on the Cars section, where you drive around and perform challenges alongside Lightning McQueen and other members of the Pixar series' cast. Predictably, the handling isn't quite Assetto Corsa but it is kid-friendly and offers co-op modes should you wish to play along with your beloved sprog.
Lego City Undercover
As Lego policeman Chase McCain, hunt bad guys and prevent crime in this game best described as an inverted Grand Theft Auto. It’s built on the same engine as the Lego Star Wars, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings games so the gameplay is instantly familiar.
You can commandeer cars from passers-by or just cruise around in a range of emergency vehicles through this open world. Since your ride is made of Lego, too much bumping and bashing causes pieces to fall off. Many of the vehicles in the game are from actual Lego sets.
While the physics can be a little odd sometimes, driving destructible Lego vehicles through a busy city is a great way to spend an evening.
