We're so excited by the Forza Horizon 5 car list! But of all the recent fads in the world of supercars, speedsters is one we can really get behind. The recipe is simple. A big motor, usually up front, no windscreen or roof protecting the two seats in the middle, and oodles of horsepower to the rear. It all adds up to a fantastic racing game experience.
Following in the footsteps of the Lamborghini Aventador J and the Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss, other brands have been getting in on the act. Here are three ultra-rare retro styled road-going throwbacks we need to see in Forza Horizon 5.
McLaren Elva
McLaren have the shortest history of the three manufacturers I’ve picked out here and this is reflected in the somewhat confused styling. I’d call it more retrofuturism rather than a modern take on classic looks. Maybe it’s because the engine is behind the driver. The proportions just aren’t as balanced as other speedsters.
It’s the lightest McLaren road car ever produced, at 1269 kg. Performance is predictably as outrageous as the looks. 2.8 s to 62 mph and a top speed of 203 mph from the same motor as the Senna makes this Elva a machine to be reckoned with.
Aston Martin V12 Speedster
This Aston is almost affordable compared to the other two cars, at a mere £765,000. It’s neither as light nor as fast as its rivals. Its stunning looks manage to reference both the latest Vantage and the 1950s DBR1.
I imagine if the Speedster was playable in Forza Horizon it would be crying out for a drift tune. The two turbochargers, coupled with the front engined, rear-wheel-drive layout, seem ideal for sideways gaming action.
Ferrari Monza
The Monza has a very rare factory option available. Should you wish, you can spec your Monza with just the one seat. I guess it saves weight but it seems unfair not to share the experience. Especially when that experience is an open top car with a naturally aspirated Italian V12. Still, this wouldn’t make a difference in a video game!
For my imaginary money, the Ferrari Monza is the speedster that best marries modern and retro styling. I’d be surprised if we don’t get to drive this one in the Mexico of Forza Horizon 5 eventually.
