Disney Speedstorm is almost here! Or at least, it should almost be here. Despite a release date in 2022 listed for the upcoming game, we don't have a specific day named anywhere.

So, what's happening with Speedstorm? And when are we likely to be able to play it?

Disney Speedstorm

Disney Speedstorm had us all hyped when it was officially announced back in February of this year. An arcade racing game that's inspired from different worlds in the Disney-Pixar universe is something we really liked the look of.

Since the reveal trailer, loads of characters, tracks and game mechanics such as the Class System have been confirmed. Even crossplay has been confirmed for launch day, whenever that will be.

At the time of writing, there are just 33 days left in 2022 and we'd be amazed if Speedstorm launches before the 31st December.

Even Need for Speed Unbound, which left its reveal unnervingly late, gave fans almost two months to pre-order the game. This also allowed EA's marketing team to build hype up ahead of the big day.

When's it really coming out?

Unfortunately, we don't have an answer for you here. We don't know what stage Disney Speedstorm is currently at in its development cycle.

We haven't seen any true, unedited gameplay yet, so it's safe to assume there's still a ways to go until Speedstorm is ready to launch.

This could mean a delay of a few months to around March, or an even longer one, perhaps until this time next year.

Delays aren't bad, but they aren't good either

Delays to video game releases is nothing new. Need for Speed Unbound, for example, was delayed by over a year and so was Red Dead Redemption 2. That's before we even get into Cyberpunk 2077 or the likes of GTA 6.

While that's a mixed bag of impressive and underwhelming games, delays don't mean a game will be bad. In fact, it allows developers more time to perfect the game they set out to create at the start of the process.

The problem though, lies with the fans. Players only have so much patience and the longer they're left in the dark, the faster they'll lose interest.

A quick look at any of Speedstorm's tweets or YouTube videos in recent times leaves you under no illusion that some of the fans have lost their patience.

It also doesn't help that Speedstorm will be a free-to-play game with microtransactions available as well.

We don't know what form these microtransactions will take, but some will assume the worst since we're still in the dark. Just like with the release date, some will assume the worst.

Whenever Speedstorm will launch, Gameloft needs to be transparent. Otherwise, those annoying complaints will fade away as interest dies down.
