Le Mans Ultimate is the best chance we have of competing in the epic 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. Instead of having to drive the car through day and night, wind and rain, we can stay indoors with the luxury of a pause menu. There is one big question though: will Le Mans Ultimate be on Xbox?
Enduring racing
Le Mans Ultimate is being developed by Studio 397, owned by Motorsport Games. Despite all the rumours of cancellation, especially due to the recent cuts by Motorsport Games, Le Mans Ultimate hit Early Access in February 2024.
The biggest question by far is which platforms the game will be released on. With every new racing title, there is always a buzz about whether it’s a console-exclusive or limited to only PC. In recent years, the question has also been which generation of consoles the game will be released on.
So will Le Mans Ultimate be coming to the Xbox Series X|S?
Will Le Mans Ultimate be on Xbox?
For Xbox players, we’re afraid it’s bad news. Dom Duhan. PC is the only platform you can play Le Mans Ultimate on for now, but that situation may change in the future.
Speaking to RacingGames, Motorsport Games CEO Stephen Hood revealed that a console port "makes sense," but it depends on both available technology and the sales of the game on PC. It’s not new to see a game sell well on one platform before being ported across to others, so hopefully the same will happen for Le Mans Ultimate.
"People want it on the PlayStation and Xbox. Getting the official Le Mans World Endurance game onto PlayStation and Xbox would be amazing. It’s our dream,” he said.
“If we get the wheel turning on PC and people are really enjoying the product, the ecosystem, the online platform we’re building, and the content we have planned, I think it makes sense to go to consoles,” Hood told us.
Considering how intense the Le Mans races can be, it may still be a tough ask to render a full race on Xbox and PS5 if the game were to be ported.
Even the Series X's incredible power pales when compared to a mid-range gaming PC. Studio 397’s physics engine has also only been fully utilised on PC in the past, but that could change with the current generation of console.
So it’s not good for Xbox players right now, but the consoling news is that one day it may be possible for you to tackle Le Mans on your Xbox console.
