The third and final playoff spot is up for grabs in the match between Williams & Fordzilla. A 3-1 win for Fordzilla will see them through at the expense of last year's runners-up. Can they get the job done, or will Williams find their form again?
Fighting back
Williams has been on the receiving end of back-to-back 3-1 defeats to BMW and McLaren. That sort of form in a group stage can often spell disaster.
Thankfully they got the job done in Week 1 with a 4-0 win over JAESA Suzuki.
“We’ve got some work to do, that’s for sure" said Williams driver Kuba Brzezinski in an interview, and that work starts against Fordzilla. Williams has a trio of strong drivers, but none are lightning fast. While that allows for some tactical flexibility it has left them vulnerable to their opponents.
Is it a weakness Fordzilla can exploit?
Upsetting the odds
Fordzilla has done a terrific job this season of picking up points. While they don't have an out-and-out win to their name, they sit on 5 points from their 3 matches so far and have all the tools to pick up a huge scalp this week.
Emre Cihan has been growing in confidence over the course of the season, and Gianmarco Fiduci is no slouch either. Shaun Arnold is also an experienced racer that can get the job done.
Is their pace and tactics strong enough to pick up that elusive win this week though? Fordzilla has been balancing on a knife-edge with an aggressive style this year, but it's a method that could easily see them tip the wrong way.
Prediction
A 3-1 win for Fordzilla will see them secure the #3 spot in Group B, and that is a tall task for them. However, the pressure is all on Williams to deliver here. They expected to fight at the front of the grid this season and instead are now battling for their lives.
Between Martin Stefanko, Nikodem Wisniewski, and Brzezinski Williams should have enough pace to pick up at least 2 points from this encounter, but anything less than a win will be a worry for their further progression this season.
