"Gran Turismo 7 will contain everything that was in GT Sport" - Polyphony CEO

We're so hyped for Gran Turismo 7, March 2022 can't come quickly enough! GT7 will be the first title from this classic racing simulator to be released on the next-gen PS5 console. Normally when a new GT lands on a new console generation, the amount of cars and circuits available is smaller than the last game.

However, Polyphony CEO Kazunori Yamauchi has stated in a recent interview that, that won't be the case with GT7. In fact, this game will build upon what was included in GT Sport.

Bucking the trend

A quick peruse through the history of GT games will reveal a trend whenever they advance console generations. Whenever a new PlayStation is released, the first GT title of the new generation has less content than the last of the old generation.

A CLASSIC: GT3 was a great game but it did have less content than GT2

This was the case with GT3 on the PS2, GT5 on the PS3 (if you only count premium cars), and GT Sport on the PS4. GT7 will buck this trend though, as it will contain everything that was present in GT Sport:

“Gran Turismo 7 will really contain everything that was in GT Sport; there’ll be nothing lost there” - Yamauchi

For those wondering, GT Sport currently contains 338 cars and 84 circuits. Furthermore, we've had it confirmed via multiple sources that GT7 will incorporate at least 420 cars and 90 circuits, so this adds up.

What was included in GT Sport?

GT Sport has benefited hugely from post-release DLCs and patches. The game has gone from a title that was quite bare to boasting plenty of tracks and vehicles to race them on. There's no reason to not believe what Yamauchi is saying, so this is the full list of circuits that are in GT Sport:

LAND OF THE RISING SUN: Suzuka is one of many Japanese circuit we'll see in GT7

There haven't been any new circuits confirmed for GT7 yet, but many have returned from GT Sport. We've got articles for both which circuits and cars have been confirmed via GT7's multiple trailers and published interviews from the developers:

There have been some classic GT original circuits that are making a comeback after skipping out GT Sport though. Both the High-speed ring and Trial Mountain will be included in GT7, but will more be making a return to the series on PS5?

"The reason we needed High-Speed Ring is because it’s really a track that’s suited for a beginner driver. And Trial Mountain just happens to be one of my favourites as well, so that’s the reason it was selected.” - Yamauchi

That's not a yes, but it certainly doesn't look like a no either, so we could see some more old-school favourites back on the roster.
