Car tuning has been a staple of Gran Turismo since its inception in 1997, but will Gran Turismo 7 have tuning?
In past GT games, visiting the GT Auto tuning shop allows you to upgrade everything from the engine to the brakes and suspension to make your car more competitive. We have fond memories of customising humble Japanese kei cars with brash widebody kits and massive power upgrades in the earlier GT games.
Unfortunately, car tuning in GT Sport is limited. Since GT Sport doesn’t have a traditional GT Mode, there is no GT Auto shop. This begs the question: will GT7 have tuning?
Will Gran Turismo 7 have tuning?
Thankfully, the answer is a resounding yes. GT Mode is back in GT7 and tuning will be a huge part of your car-collecting career with the return of the GT Auto Shop.
In a recent behind the scenes video, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi teased some of the tuning options we can expect to see in GT7. “One of the great pleasures of owning a car is being able to customise and tune it, Kazunori explained. “I think this process of tuning the car to your exact preference is really enjoyable.”

Kazunori confirmed GT7 will have “the most number of parts we’ve ever had available for tuning the cars in the game.”
The video shows a huge variety of wheel options from renowned brands including Rays. You can also add new body parts such as wings, spoilers, and bumpers to enhance the car's aerodynamics and make the styling more aggressive.
As for mechanical upgrades, everything from the brakes, suspension, air filter, and sports muffler can be upgraded. The tyres can also be changed and the weight of the car can be reduced. These tuning options will have a significant effect on the car’s handling and performance, and we can’t wait to tinker with them.
In addition, Polyphony Digital has partnered with leading brake specialist Brembo. Thanks to this technical partnership, a large selection of high-performance Brembo braking systems will be available to buy in the tuning shop, including Carbon Ceramic brake discs and GT|BM callipers available in eight different colours.
