Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
When it comes to finding the right monitor for your gaming, there are usually a few questions that pop up, we're here to answer them!
What type of monitor is best for gaming?
There are a few keys when it comes to gaming, and specifically racing. The higher frames per second your machine can produce, the more precise and accurate your driving will be. That's why for GT7 we want monitors with at least 60Hz, as that can handle the 60 fps the PS5 will produce.
Then there is resolution. The PS5 will run GT7 at 4K, while the PS4 will only be able to do 1080p. So finding the best balance of resolution and refresh rate that fits your needs (and your budget) is how to get the best monitor for gaming.
What size monitor is best for gaming?
This really depends on where you are sitting. If you're on your sofa and will be gaming on your main TV screen then the bigger the better! If you are sitting at a gaming desk or in a cockpit then a screen that's too big can be very detrimental.
We primarily race using a wheel that is bolted onto a table (no cockpits just yet!), which means we aren't very far from the screen. In this instance, a 27-inch monitor works perfectly.
Curved or flat monitors for racing?
This debate doesn't come up for other gamers, but when it comes to racing there is a big divide. If you are one of those racers that love to use cockpit cam and see the track through the eyes of the virtual driver then a curved monitor is best for you
Do you need an HDMI 2.1 monitor for 120hz gaming?
Strictly speaking no, but you will need one if you want to play Gran Turismo at 120Hz in 4K. This is especially likely if you own one of the next-gen consoles.
We'd therefore recommend that you check whether the monitor you plan on purchasing is compatible with the console you're trying to use.
This information can normally be found in the monitor's specs.
What resolution is best for Gran Turismo 7?
Choosing the resolution for the Gran Turismo 7 will come down to personal preference, but we'd recommend trying to match your current display with the resolution settings from your console or PC.
If you don't match it, you'll find that the image quality will be affected and you may lose some detail, especially on larger screens.
