CarX Drift Racing Online Crossplay: Console & PC gamers have crossplay enabled

CarX Drift Racing Online has been out for a number of years but has really taken off since coming to PC in 2017. Since then, CarX has also come to both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

With CarX being available on four different consoles, it's no surprise that Crossplay has been enabled. However, there are some combinations of consoles which can't matchup with each other, but could that change in the future? We've got everything you need to know about Crossplay on CarX right here!

Crossplay that's allowed

Crossplay became enabled when the Xbox and PlayStation versions of CarX became live. Now, PC, Xbox One and PS4 gamers can all compete against each other in the same lobbies. We've spoke at length about why crossplay is a positive feature in racing games and it's been a part of what's made CarX so successful.

What isn't available

Despite being out for the longest amount of time, the original mobile version isn't available to play using crossplay. The PC and mobile games are effectively the same mechanically, but because of the vastly different operating systems, they cannot be crossplayed together.

There was a time when only one of PlayStation or Xbox gamers could join a PC server. For example, if a PC player created a lobby and a PlayStation gamer joined, no Xbox gamers could join after. This made matchmaking difficult and was frustrating for many gamers. Thankfully though, this is no longer an issue after the developers patched it recently.

Future expansion

Right now, there isn't any word on future crossplay combinations. The most likely expansion will be into PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in the coming years. If that happens, then we'd expect PS5 and Series X to join the crossplay party. If not from launch, then added shortly via an update.
